Information
This project was designed as part of the 3rd and final year of the BSc in Architecture at Cardiff University. It is located in the Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff Bay. The project aims to reimagine the 'Library of the Future'. Inspired from the Ancient Greek 'Agora' where knowledge was exchanged in a social manner, the Roald Dahl Library aims to enhance this exchange of knowledge through social spaces. To achieve this, an active canopy is designed using principles of structural optimisation to increase spans in order to maximise the efficient use of space both on the top and bottom Agora. The design takes into consideration the unique site of the project as it is located within an old loading bay. The canopy therefore has minimal impact on the site, respecting the views to the iconic Welsh Millennium Centre and enhancing pedestrian access through the site.
