Information
V-Era Tower - A pinnacle that resists the territorial division which characterises the tectonics of the area. A manifestation of the Icelandic word "vera" which means "presence".
The tower is inspired by the angled rock formation within the Grjotagja Caves, where the morphology of the area becomes the inspiration for the V-shaped design. Bold angles present in the tower and the podium accentuate its emergence from the terrain creating instagrammable spots.
The tower forms an upward journey, with moments of the exterior being gradually revealed. It creates an opportunity for the visitors to become immersed into the experience of this previously hidden landscape.
V-Era is a tower for exploration and relaxation. A tower which establishes a new era for the people of Vogar and visitors from around the world.
The soft and bright interior of the Tower complements the hard and dark language of the exterior. It creates a warm, welcoming environment for the visitors to experience the building in all its glory. It separates visitors into public and semi-public, where the latter can enjoy the idyllic waters of the caves while being detached from the other visitors.
The natural materials chosen provide a nurturing environment and allow the visitors to connect with the space.
The internal journey through the atrium ends with the breath-taking view from the viewing platform. Here, the visitors have an overview of the unique landscape of Iceland which unfolds before their eyes.
