Sustainability is a key driver in the design of the Gantry family and is evident from the choice of materials and the Reuse of the existing structure wherever possible. Other than providing clear information for the safety of drivers, the Gantry family has another major role to play as it acts as the ‘purifiers’ of the highway. This is made possible by the photocatalytic titanium dioxide coated cladding panels. Also known as ‘smog-eating’ concrete (hence the Family’s name ‘SmoGants’), this material removes pollutants from the air, neutralising the effect of thousands of cars using the network.
The lightweight and streamlined geometry of the family is inspired by the fluidity of the road lines and the serpentinelike directionality of the road networks.
